A conflict of unprecedented scale the Second World War wreaked death and destruction across the globe.

Nearly a million Australians served and close to 40,000 lost their lives. On 2 September 1945 the six-year conflict came to an end at last with the formal surrender of Japan.

Eighty years on we remember the Australians who served and sacrificed in the Second World War. This commemorative coin features a wreath of red poppies - one poppy for each decade that has passed since the end of the war.
